December 8th Lake City (FL) VA Medical Center Visit
On December 8th members of our Council traveled to the VA Medical Center in Lake City, FL, to visit with retired and hospitalized Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen, Coast Guardsmen, and Merchant Mariners. This visit was particularly important since many of these veterans are hospitalized during the holiday season and have no family close by.

Thanks to the generosity of corporate sponsor (BAE) as well as private donors we were able to collect some much needed supplies. We also collected over $1,000 in cash donations which went toward purchasing additional supplies for the vets at the medical center. In addition we presented a check in the amount of $300.00 for the medical center's recreation fund to help with the cost of taking veterans on outings. All totaled we delivered approximately $1,500.00 in supplies for veterans, hospice family room, and Jodie the center's resident pooch. By far, the most we have collected/donated in support of the veterans! The medical center staff were overwhelmed with the five carts full of donated items.
At left, Council VP - Communications Stevie Obee poses with Jodie, a Black Lab mix who serves as a therapy dog at the VAMC. Food and treats were also collected for Jodie.
While at the medical center we assisted the veterans and staff with BINGO which was a lot fun for all. We donated $150.00 in "canteen bucks" as prizes. Canteen bucks are dollar booklets of coupons which the medical center patients use to purchase things at the store within the facility.
Please plan to join us in July of 2016 when we will again be collecting supplies and visiting hospitalized veterans at the Lake City VA Medical Center.
